July 2005 Final Results It was a clean sweep for Scottish sides at this years silver jubilee Aberdeen International Football festival which ended at the Chris Anderson Stadium on Saturday. The young Dons lifted the Boys 14s event for the first time in three years with a comprehensive display against the impressive Faroe Islands Under 15 national squad. Sam Urquhart was the goal hero for the Pittodrie side grabbing a first half hat-trick, including two in the last five minutes, the second of which was from the spot after he had been brought down by Monrad Jacobsen. There was some consolation for the Faroese however when their quickfire Polish born striker Adrian Cieslewicz picked up the coveted player of the tournament trophy. In the Boys 16s, Dundee United overpowered Dyce despite the city side taking a shock early lead thanks to a Nicky Gall free kick. The Tannadice outfit responded through Scott Paterson, Gordon Pope and David Goodwillie before the interval and, after the break, Ryan McCord and Marco Andreoni, with the pick of the bunch, a swerving effort from the edge of the box, adding further counters. North East United their billing as favourites with a clinical display against injury hit Regensburg who were forced to field striker Jasmin Leber between the sticks. Stephanie Cameron struck twice inside the opening eight minutes and further first half goals arrived via Sarah Main, Leanne Calder, Laura Mitchell and captain Karen Mason. Although the second period was far closer, Mason added number seven for the Inverness and Moray select late on. Outgoing AIFF chairman Andrew Armstrong, who hands over to Dave Fleming, received a standing ovation from the six hundred guests present following his final speech in an official capacity at Saturday evenings dinner and awards ceremony at the Beach Ballroom. Lord Provost John Reynolds thanked Andrew for his work since the Festivals inception in 1981 and remarked that. It was fitting that the 25th Festival should be possibly the best in the events history. It was generally acknowledged that, despite the late enforced withdrawal of three African sides through no fault of their own, this years tournament had been fitting in terms of marking the silver jubilee of an event whose concept can be traced back to visit to the United States by then Dons boss Alex Ferguson and the late Chris Anderson in 1978. The 2006 Festival will run from the 16th 22nd July. Saturdays Finals Aberdeen will
meet the Faroe Islands national under 15 squad at the Chris
Anderson Stadium this afternoon (kick-off 1.30 pm) in the
final of the Boys 14s event after both sides came through
tough semis yesterday. A first half Ryan Strachan header gave the young Dons victory over Old Benonians from South Africa while the Faroese looked to be on their way out when they trailed Albion by a Curtis Sangbarni goal going into the final two minutes. However, Adrian Cieslewicz levelled at the death before Joan Simun Edmundson notched the winner in the opening period of extra time This
mornings girls final (11 am) is between Inverness and Moray
select North East United and Regensburg. North East came from
behind twice to oust Stonehaven for whom Rebecca Dempster and
Rhona Gordon were on target with Sarah Main, Nicola Ross,
Karen Mason and Leanne Calder all on the mark for the victors.
Regensburg meanwhile had to rely on a Julia Hofstetter counter
in a close battle with Old Benonians that could have gone
either way. A first half
Marco Andreoni double and a second half addition from Gordon
Pope saw Dundee United reach the final of the Boys 16s at
the expense of Colony Park, who replied through Scott
Davidson. United will face Dyce (3.30 pm), who defeated Ross
County 2-1. Andrew Whyte gave Dyce the interval lead only for
Steve Cunningham to reply from the penalty spot. However, with
five minutes to go Gary Patterson headed home what proved to
be the winner. Fridays Results Boys 14s Semi-Finals
