"When the
event started in 1981 the idea was not simply to provide a
soccer tournament but to create a Festival which would include
a tournament and at the same time many other soccer activities
and social events."
The objective was
that young people from all over the world should be able to
come together in friendship to compete with each other.
The format has
been an outstanding success with teams from 42 countries
representing 6 continents taking part.
Soccer Tournament All matches are played on first class
grass pitches in the picturesque Seaton Park, a few minutes
walking distance from the accommodation. Teams have a minimum
of four games.
Other Soccer Activities The soccer related activities
include a 5-a-side tournament, soccer tennis, a penalty kick
competition, and a visit to the stadium of Aberdeen Football
Club.
Social Activities On the social front there are many
options, provided free of charge, such as a welcome reception,
an awards presentation ceremony, ten pin bowling, 'It's a
Knockout', a disco, an
evening of traditional Scottish entertainment for the adults,
and sightseeing tours of both the city and the local beautiful
Scottish countryside..
Match Officials Fully qualified referees and assistant
referees officiate at all the games. The standard of
refereeing is high with many officials from the most senior
grades in Scotland and other countries.
Fully Approved The Festival is approved by the Scottish
Football Association and by FIFA. It is also a founder member
of BISTA (the British Isles Soccer Tournaments Association).
The Aberdeen International Football Festival is proud of its
motto "Football is Fun" and wee do all in our power
to make this a week of football and fun for all our guests, so
that they may leave Aberdeen with the very best of memories
and we hope many new found friends from all continents.
